Privacy

The short version: what you type into Afterward Care stays in your own browser, on your own device. We do not have accounts, we do not have a database of families, and we never see the name, address, or Social Security digits you enter to make your letters.
If you clear your browser data, that information is gone — including from us, because we never had it.
What stays on your device
Everything you enter — the person's name, your state, the estate details, and the information used to fill in your letters — is saved using your browser's own local storage. That is a small amount of space your browser sets aside for a website, on your computer or phone. It is not sent to us.
This is why your plan is still there when you come back on the same device and browser, and why it is not there if you switch to a different phone, use a private window, or clear your browsing data.
The last four digits of a Social Security number are optional. If you enter them, they are used only to fill in the letter text on your screen, and they are handled the same way as everything else: they stay on your device.
What our website does see
Afterward Care is a plain website. Like any website, our hosting provider automatically records basic technical information when a page is requested — such as the IP address, the page requested, the time, and the browser type. This is standard server logging used to keep the site running and secure. It is not connected to anything you type into the tool.
Our host is Vercel, which processes this technical data on our behalf.
We load typefaces from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google's servers when the page loads. Google may receive your IP address as part of that request. We do not send Google anything you have entered.
What we do not do
- We do not require an account, a password, or an email address to use the tool.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your information, because we do not collect it.
- We do not use advertising trackers or third-party marketing pixels.
- We do not run analytics that follow you across other websites.
If your funeral home gave you this link
A link with a funeral home's name in it simply tells the page which name to display. It does not report anything back to the funeral home. They do not receive your answers, they are not told that you opened it, and they cannot see your plan or your letters.
Letters we mail for you
We are building an optional service where we print your letters, enclose a certified copy of the death certificate, and mail them for you. That service is not yet available.
When it launches, it will work differently from the rest of the tool, and we will say so clearly at the point where you choose it: to mail something on your behalf we would need to receive your name and mailing address, the letter contents, and the document you want enclosed, and we would use a printing and mail provider to send it. We will publish the details here before that service accepts anyone's information.
Children
This tool is meant for adults handling a death in the family. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Changes
If we change how any of this works — particularly if we begin collecting information — we will update this page and change the date at the top.
